The Fragrance of Christ | November 12th, 2021
One of my most favorite memories of growing up in the Northwest was being surrounded by tall, majestic pine trees. I distinctly remember their spicy fragrance which brings me back to the invigorating crispness I felt in the air that seemed to welcome fall, cozy fires in the fireplace, and snuggling with a purring kitty on the sofa with a good book and my much-loved quilt.

Did you know that when you become a follower of Jesus Christ you are a delightful fragrance to Him? God uses us to carry His fragrance to others. What an honor to represent Him in this way! The more time we spend saturating ourselves in His Word, the more we soak up the fragrant knowledge of who He is and all He has done for us. God never intended for His fragrance to be bottled and stored. Instead, it is to be shared and diffused everywhere we go!
As we study His Word, we are able to understand how to live in a way that is pleasing to Him so our fragrance is attractive to those around us seeking to know God. It’s so important to have the knowledge of the Word to keep our fragrance from dissipating through sin and compromise with the world. His Word gives us all the instructions we need to live in a way that brings glory and honor to Him with unimaginable blessing.
I have found that the more time I spend learning about God’s character and deepening my relationship with Him, the more I am in complete awe of His mighty power. He is in full control of all things! No matter what happens in this world, I know I am secure in Him. His Word tells me I am saved and sealed for all eternity because I have believed in Jesus Christ as my Savior.
I reverently fear Him yet, at the same time, recognizing He is my Protector and perfect Provider who deeply loves and cares so much for me, there is a feeling of coziness and comfort enveloping me when I spend time with Him. It’s like being wrapped in my favorite quilt, knowing I can snuggle up close to Him. It’s the fragrance of intimacy that comes from truly knowing Him.
Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians 2:14-15
