Because of Her Love | March 13th, 2016
It has been four years now since my mother went to be with Jesus in heaven. I could have never imagined my life without her here on earth. We were as close as a mother and daughter could possibly be. So much alike with the same kind of optimism, energy, and joy in life. We even looked alike. When we were together, people often asked us if we were sisters!
When that sorrowful day came on March 13, 2012, my heart felt so incredibly broken. I felt pain, deep sadness, and a constant ache in my heart that never seemed to go away.
God has been an amazing Comforter to me over these past four years. Each year, around the anniversary of her going Home to be with Jesus, He gives me the ability to express my feelings into poetry to help me cope with my grief and to help my heart heal a little more each day.
Here is the poem I recently wrote that has brought me the comfort I needed for this year. If you have gone through a similar loss in your life, I pray this ministers to your broken heart to bring you comfort as well…
Because of Her Love
The person whom I have become today began well before my birth
As I was so loved each day in the womb, for I already had great worth.
This place I was nurtured was safe and warm as I grew a little each day
From my first tiny heartbeat till I formed arms and legs, for my precious new life she would pray.
The day I was born I could feel her deep love as she held me so close to her heart
The bonds that were formed as she rocked me to sleep could have never been broken apart.
I grew into a little girl who was taught to know right from wrong
Through memory of Scripture from her own well-read Bible or learning it through a song.
But even when I made the biggest mistakes, she never turned me away
Instead, her arms would hold me tight; “I love you so much!” she would say.
As I embarked upon adolescence, my moods were not always sweet
Yet she listened intently and lifted my spirits, never allowing defeat.
She celebrated my uniqueness, reminding me of each special skill
“They were given to you by your amazing Creator, for there is only one Kimberly Jill!
Remember to use them – be a blessing to others as you are one-of-a-kind
A masterpiece in the image of God on who’s Name is permanently signed.”
Words of wisdom and godly advice were gifts that she often gave
To help me become one who makes good decisions and to know it pays off to be brave.
Now that I’ve grown and tried many new things – from marriage to writing a book
As an entrepreneur right out of college, never taking a backward look.
I continue to climb new heights every day wherever God may guide
And in those moments of uncertainty, it’s her words I have often applied.
“You can do it, my daughter, you have all the tools!” It’s the voice of my mother I hear
And although she is no longer with me on earth, it still sounds incredibly clear.
She provided for me each tool I would need to get through the smooth and the rough
For she knew that there would be days up ahead when advice would not be enough.
Before leaving to be with her Savior, she wanted to make sure that I knew
I would always have with me the best tool of all – her LOVE, to carry me through.
