Longing for His Appearing | July 11th, 2021

As a little girl, I remember how excited I would be whenever I got to have a weekend slumber party with my best friend. I would sit by the window, nose pressed against the glass in anticipation of her arrival. We always had so much fun making “potions” out of anything we could find to mix together, playing hide-and-seek, baking chocolate chip cookies, and listening to “Uncle Charlie” on the Saturday morning Children’s Bible Hour.

As an adult, I have found another reason to keep my nose pressed against the glass, so to speak. It’s easy to look around and know that something is not right in this world and sadly, it is not getting better or going back to “normal.” This ship has been sinking steadily into the deep, dark waters of self-centeredness and immorality. People have made up their minds that they do not need God in their lives and are living their own way, deeply entrenched in sin without giving any thought to the laws and guidelines in His Word given to us for our protection and blessing. They are mocked and scoffed and His holy name is nothing more than to be used in vain or as a curse word.

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—having a form of godliness but denying its power. 2 Timothy 3:1-5a

How perfectly this describes the world in which we live today! Do you honestly think God will allow those whom He created and dearly loves to turn their backs on Him indefinitely? Not a chance. He will do whatever it takes to get our attention and turn us toward Him. The warnings have been increasing in intensity and frequency all around us, yet it seems no one is really listening. These warnings have a time limit and this world as we know it is quickly coming to an end to make a way for a new heaven and a new earth. Every day that passes is one day closer to Jesus’ soon return to make all things new!

The more I am aware of the murky swamp of wickedness we are living in, the more excited I am to see Jesus. My nose is pressed hard against the glass, watching and waiting for His soon return. I can’t wait to be in His presence, surrounded by perfect purity, His incredible goodness, and a love for us that we cannot even begin to fathom!

During my walk the other day, the bright yellow center of this hot pink flower caught my eye. It looks like a crown! I often think about the crown we are promised simply for loving His appearing, longing for that day He comes to rescue His Bride from this corrupt world that is so clearly not our Home. It is a crown that I cannot wait to place at Jesus’ feet as He wipes away every last tear from my eyes in my heavenly Home where there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. And best of all, no more evil as He victoriously conquered it all for us through His death, burial, and resurrection!

Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing. 2 Timothy 4:8

Be ready for Jesus’ return which can happen at any moment. Accept Him as your Savior while you still have time. We are not promised our next breath. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ who shed His blood as atonement for your sin and you will be saved and sealed for all eternity!

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. John 3:16-17
