Live Like a Royal | February 15th, 2016

February’s traditional birthstone is the beautiful gemstone amethyst, a violet variety of the mineral quartz. When manganese is present in clear quartz, it produces amethyst. Its hue of purple, ranging from pale lilac to deep violet, is attributed to the amount of iron it contains.

I am drawn to vintage costume jewelry in all shades of purple and have collected several pieces over the years that I have repurposed into rings. Here are a few beauties I have recently found:

The Color Purple

The color purple has been associated with royalty for centuries. In literary works, purple often symbolizes wealth, power, and status. Far back in history, purple’s elite status came from the rarity and high cost of the dye to produce it. It was so expensive that only rulers could afford it. Queen Elizabeth I, who reigned from 1558 – 1603, forbade anyone except close members of the royal family to wear it.

Fabric traders would acquire the dye from a small mollusk found only in the Tyre region of the Mediterranean Sea (now modern-day Lebanon). More than 9,000 mollusks were necessary to create just one gram of Tyrian purple! It soon became associated with the royal classes of Rome, Egypt, and Persia.

Purple was worn by royalty during biblical times as well. For example, Judges 8:26 describes the plunder after Gideon captured and killed Zebah and Zalmunna, the two kings of Midian:

The weight of the gold rings he asked for came to seventeen hundred shekels, not counting the ornaments, the pendants and the purple garments worn by the kings of Midian or the chains that were on their camels’ necks.

You are Royalty

Did you know that the moment you ask Jesus Christ to come into your life to be your Savior you instantly become royalty? You are adopted as a child of the King, welcomed into the royal family of God!

Jesus was asked a question about royalty by Pilate just before His crucifixion:

Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So you are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” John 18:37

Your Father, the King, loves you no matter who you are or what you’ve done and nothing can ever separate you from His love.

In the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans, he writes:

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.  No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

The Benefits of Being a Royal

Being a part of a royal family includes numerous benefits…

Royalty ALWAYS HAS PROTECTION wherever they go. As a child of the King, you have angels constantly watching over you and protecting you!

For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go. Psalm 91:11

Royalty NEVER HAS TO WORRY about their needs being met. As a child of the King, His riches provide everything you need!

And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

Royalty DRESSES ONLY IN THE FINEST GARMENTS. As a child of the King, you are given the garments of salvation and a robe of righteousness, paid for by Jesus’ priceless shed blood so you may live with Him free from sin in His kingdom forever!

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Isaiah 61:10

Royalty is SURROUNDED BY BEAUTY. As a child of the King, you will be surrounded by incredible beauty, splendor, and magnificence in your new Home in heaven. One of the foundations of the wall of the city just so happens to be amethyst…a royal gemstone!

The foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with every kind of jewel. The first was jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald, the fifth onyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, the twelfth amethyst. And the twelve gates were twelve pearls, each of the gates made of a single pearl, and the street of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass. Revelation 21:19-21

Royalty WEARS A BEAUTIFUL CROWN. The Greek word crown means “a badge of royalty.” As a child of the King, you will receive the crown of life, given to those who love Him!

Happy is the man who doesn’t give in and do wrong when he is tempted, for afterwards he will get as his reward the crown of life that God has promised those who love him. James 1:12

If you ever question being worthy of God’s love for you, just remember who you are. You are a CHILD OF THE KING, a part of the royal family of God! Nothing can ever separate you from His love. He has rescued you out of the kingdom of darkness so you may forever be with Him in His kingdom of light!

May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins. Colossians 1:11(b) -14
