Let Your Light Shine | December 19th, 2021
Christmas is a such a special time of year for me. To see all of the pretty lights twinkling throughout neighborhoods and shops in anticipation of the big day celebrating Jesus’ birth warms me from the inside out. No matter how dark and dreadful the world, it is during these few weeks leading up to Christmas that the light seems to overpower all the darkness.

When Jesus came into the world as a tiny baby, His purpose was to be the Light of the world so that we would never have to walk in darkness. He is the exclusive source of that light. There are no substitutions that can even remotely resemble His light. They are counterfeit and fake, coming from the enemy who tries to mimic God and deceive people but is a complete failure every time.
We are given the true Light of life when we make the decision to follow Jesus.
When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12
Once we begin our journey with Him, we are encouraged to shine our light brightly. We can do this by showing love and kindness, blessing others with the blessings we’ve been given and also through our gifts and talents. This brings us significant purpose and much glory to God.
Don’t hide your light! Let it shine for all; let your good deeds glow for all to see, so that they will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:15-16
It is an incredible honor to be chosen by God to represent Him in this world. He shines through us so that those who do not know Him can experience the love of Christ which He proved through His death on the cross to take away our sin so that we may have eternal life.
We can also shine our light by knowing and obeying God’s commands through reading His Word. We cannot know how to live by His standards if we treat His Word like cake, having a nibble of it every now and then instead of like our daily bread, giving us the sustenance we desperately need. God’s Word is full of good nutrition in the form of truth, encouragement, and clear guidelines for walking in His perfect ways.
The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. Psalm 19:8
Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror when you’ve been sick or were lacking sleep? You may have noticed the light had gone out from your eyes. Using God’s Word as a lamp to know how to live holy before Him and uncompromising affects your whole condition, allowing His light to reflect beautifully through you.
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: Proverbs 6:23
You may feel unsure about how to let your light shine but know that the moment you believe in Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are filled with His light. It is impossible for the darkness to extinguish it. His light is powerful – of the highest wattage! And it will shine through you brightly for all to see as you walk closely with the Light of the World.
