It’s Black and White | June 24th, 2021
It seems there’s just not a whole lot left in the world today that is considered “black and white.” By this, I mean a clear cut, sharply defined truth. Judgments, opinions, and various perspectives can skew the truth no matter how solid it may seem. When I spotted this pretty black and white feather on the ground, I began to ponder the one thing we can hold onto that cannot be distorted…the encouraging promises found in God’s Word.

These are unchanging truths with absolutely no wiggle room for twisting or tweaking in any way. They are truly “black and white.” How comforting to know God’s word never changes and His promises are guaranteed to never be broken!
Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30:5
Here are a few of my favorite promises from the Lord that have encouraged me over the years…
The TWIST: You have to be your strongest when you feel your weakest.
The TRUTH: God is your strength who goes before you and stays beside you.
“It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Deuteronomy 31:8
The TWIST: You are perfect exactly how you are. You are enough!
The TRUTH: You are dead in your sins without Christ, but because of His love and grace, you are made alive, transformed with a new identity!
But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4-5
The TWIST: God can never forgive you for that sin.
The TRUTH: God will forgive you of ALL your sins.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
The TWIST: You are not lovable and God does not really care about you.
The TRUTH: You are so loved that NOTHING can ever separate you from His love!
For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39
The TWIST: If you don’t live quite right or do enough good works, you could lose your salvation.
The TRUTH: Once you believe with your heart, putting your faith and trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, you are saved and sealed for all eternity!
And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14
The TWIST: Jesus is never coming back. People have been talking about His return for thousands of years. Where is the promise of His coming?
The TRUTH: Every day that passes is one day closer to Jesus’ soon return. This world was only meant to be our temporary Home. With the increase in wickedness and a world shaking their fist in God’s face to let Him know they have no need for Him, God’s warnings of His soon coming wrath are increasing rapidly. He desires for all to come to repentance and is so patient with us! At His perfect appointed time, He will rescue His Bride, just like He said He would, to take us out of this broken, sin-filled world to our glorious, forever Home!
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. I Thessalonians 4:16-17
Even if nothing else on earth remains “black and white” (besides that pretty feather) we know God’s promises are absolute, unchangeable, established, set in stone, a done deal. We can put our trust in Him without a moment of doubt or worry. His promises to us will never be broken. And that’s a written guarantee!
