God’s Perfect Path | April 19th, 2021

Have you ever hiked into the crater of a volcano? My husband, Michael, and I got the chance to do just that at Haleakalā which makes up more than 75% of the Hawaiian Island of Maui. The hike going into the crater is deceptively easy. But the hike out is much harder because of the thinner air making it much more challenging to breathe with the additional risk of dehydration. It was important for us to stay on the trail so we could find our way back easily if we started to feel overly exhausted. And there were plenty of signs along the way to remind us of that!

It’s the same warning God gave us knowing we would often be tempted in this life to step off of His perfect path into areas that might divert our attention and our focus away from Him. Straying from God’s path leads to confusion and a lack of true purpose. But staying on God’s path provides clarity and understanding of who He made each of us to be and where we are headed.

How can you recognize the path God has established for you?

One way is to identify your strengths that come easily and are enjoyable. Your passionate gifts will lead you toward His perfect path because He is the One who gave them to you. You might have the gift of photography, floral design, gardening, or hosting guests in your home. Perhaps your gift is public speaking or being a good listener. Whenever I am on the receiving end of people’s gifts, I feel so blessed! God will show you unimaginable ways to use your gifts for His glory, bringing you great joy and fulfillment.

Another way is to identify your weaknesses. Your actions and behaviors that never used to bother you, causing you to compromise godly living, no longer have a place in your life. Unhealthy habits, sinful addictions, sexual immorality, and impure thoughts become things you give to God instead of giving in to them because of your love for Him and your desire to be please Him. When you are obedient, He will keep your feet planted firmly on His perfect path.

This path also leads to eternal life because that is the ultimate destination God has had planned for you all along when you finally reach the end. The more time you spend with Him, the more you will grow to understand how much He truly loves you. When you begin to love Him in return with your whole heart, you will have no greater desire than to stay close to Him as you walk hand in hand on that perfect path He created for you to experience His greatest blessings.

Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil. Proverbs 4:25-27
