God of Order | April 10th, 2021

Order is such a beautiful thing. I never take it for granted anymore, especially as we are watching the world plunge into deeper chaos by the moment. Dwelling on the continuous turmoil for too long can create worry, fear, or confusion while order creates peace and harmony. We are reminded of how much God values order through the symmetry, beauty, and mathematical preciseness in every aspect of nature. The galaxy, leaf patterns, butterfly wings, zebra stripes, and honeycomb are just a few examples.

Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for light by day and the fixed order of the moon and the stars for light by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—the Lord of hosts is his name: Jeremiah 31:35

It was a huge spiral, wheel-shaped web that caught my eye while on a nature hike in the Northeast. It had such a visible fingerprint of the Creator on it! You can see His wisdom at work in the design of the spider to be able to make such an orderly pattern in its web.

This web was carefully engineered through the spider’s unique weaving capability to be a complex geometrical pattern used for defense, capturing prey, and laying eggs. There is also an order to the spider’s movement as it traveled back and forth adding more threads, strengthening the web to create this intricate pattern with purpose.

Because God is a God of order, He desires for us to trust Him with our whole heart rather than letting our mind descend into swirling anxiety and fear. Nothing is beyond His sovereign control. He promises to bring order to our life, making our paths straight when we surrender ourselves to Him.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6

A spider’s web is several times stronger than steel on a weight-for-weight basis. It also has impressive tensile strength which means it can be stretched a great deal before it snaps, allowing it to absorb the impact of fast-flying insects.

When we hear about rampant disorder in the daily news reports flying at us with increasing speed, we must put our trust in God to be our strength. He will absorb the impact of anything that could create worry or fear in us. And when our Savior returns, He will make order out of the world’s chaos so we can live in perfect peace for all eternity.
