Blooming with Radiant Sunshine | April 14th, 2021
It may be called a “pesky lawn weed” but I happen to be quite intrigued by it. Before the dandelion’s bright yellow bloom appears, it sends down a taproot that can measure up to 15 feet if it remains undisturbed! Soon after, a tubelike stalk shoots up through the center of its leaves with a tightly closed little bud. It’s not long before a burst of yellow appears.

This sunshiny bloom reminds me of how we appear to others when we have the light of Jesus Christ in us. We are bright and radiant! As our roots go down deep from spending time with God in prayer and in His Word, we become stronger and even more radiant because of our confidence, knowing we have eternal security in Him.
Something to note about dandelions, they can be weak in flowerbeds and gardens where they have to compete for sunlight and nutrients. We can also become weak when we allow the many temptations of the world to compete for our time, pulling us away from our focus on our relationship with God. Because the world is an artificial source of nourishment only providing short-lived fulfillment, we become weaker as its fake sunshine begins to dim.
After pollination, the fertilized florets produce seeds that push up and develop a feathery, white puff ball. The seeds resemble mini-parachutes which can be carried a great distance with even the slightest breeze. In fact, the dandelion holds the record as the farthest traveling passive flyer in the plant world, flying up to 62 miles! If the seed lands in a spot that is ripe and ready for it, a new dandelion can quickly sprout up.
As we become pollinated from being in close fellowship with the Lord, we are prepared and ready to share seeds of love, hope, joy, peace, and so much more of God’s goodness in our lives. Through sharing, we may impact others in such a way that they will also become transformed, quickly sprouting a new radiance to shine with the light of Christ.
Before we know it, the first seeds we shared with others are carried far and wide to those who are ripe and ready to hear about Jesus and His deep love for them. It’s a love so deep, He died an excruciating death on the cross for their sins so they could have eternal life. The moment they believe in Christ as their Savior, they become transformed out of the darkness of their old, sinful way of living and into the light as a new creation. God provides the breeze for the seeds to continue to fly farther and wider than we could ever imagine.
Spend quality time in God’s Word so your roots will go down deep to receive all of the spiritual nutrients available to you, preparing you to be able to share the seeds of God’s goodness. May others see the radiant light of Christ in you so they may find their way out of the darkness and into complete fulfillment through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ whose light will never dim!
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. 1 Peter 3:15a,b
