A Wonder in the Heavens | November 22nd, 2021

I awoke with a start Friday morning. It was 2:22 am. I jumped out of bed and went outside with great anticipation of seeing the lunar eclipse…the longest in 580 years lasting 3 hours and 28 minutes! It did not disappoint. The moon was blood red and the eclipse had already begun. What an amazing sight to behold!

I shared my experience with my Memory Care class that day and thought it would be appropriate to end our exercise session stretching to the old familiar hymn How Great Thou Art….

Oh Lord, my God,

When I, in awesome wonder,

Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made;

I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,

Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,

How great Thou art, how great Thou art.

Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,

How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

Halfway through the song, I looked over and noticed a woman in a wheelchair who is in the later stages of Alzheimer’s. Her eyes were closed and she was singing, hands opened upward in praise. Although she can no longer carry on a conversation, she remembered all the words to this classic hymn and displayed such an adoring reverence to her Savior. It was beautiful to see.

When we finished, I read Scripture that spoke of the power of the Creator of the universe…the same loving Creator who made you and me!

This is what the Lord says, he who appoints the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night, who stirs up the sea so that its waves roar—the Lord Almighty is his name: Jeremiah 31:35

When God displays wonders in the heavens such as this incredible blood moon/lunar eclipse, He is prompting us to look up so we will not forget who is in control over everything above and below. When we lose sight of that, we lose our peace.

Jesus knew that in the last days there would be great turmoil on the earth and prophesied of signs in the heavens to remind us of His soon coming and deliverance for everyone who has put their faith and trust in Him. Be ready, for He can come at any moment and at a time you least expect.

“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” Luke 21:25-28

How can you be ready?

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Romans 10:9-10
